TENDRING Council has drawn up an idiots' guide to voting ahead of tomorrow's EU referendum.

Voters heading to the district's 99 polling stations are being urged to plan when they intend to cast their ballot.

All polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm. People arriving after 10pm will not be allowed to cast their vote, but any voters who arrive before the deadline and are caught in a queue will still be entitled to a ballot paper.

Research indicates that the most popular time for voting is between 5pm and 8pm.

Tendring counting officer Ian Davidson is encouraging local residents to:

  • Plan what time they will cast their vote at their allocated polling station, leaving plenty of time before the 10pm deadline.
  • Check their poll card for the location of their polling station. It is not compulsory to take it in order to vote, but it will speed up the process.
  • Mark their ballot paper with one ‘X’ in the box beside the option they are voting for.

Anyone who has forgotten to send their postal ballot back can hand it in at any polling station in the Tendring voting area on polling day.
