BEER festival organisers are soldiering on with their plans for a real ale extravaganza. at the historic Redoubt Fort in Harwich.

There will be more than 60 real ales and ciders to try at Harwich Town Brewing Company’s seventh annual beer festival.

Harwich Town Brewing Company’s brewer Paul Mellor said: “Although running a beer festival in the Redoubt Fort is physically demanding, it is an absolute pleasure.

“It is such a wonderful venue offering magnificent views over historic Harwich and its harbour and 200 years of history.

“There can be few better places to enjoy good quality real ale.”

Beer lovers are invited to the moat into the Napoleonic fortress and enjoy the beer and the history.

It will take place at the Redoubt Fort, off Main Road, from Thursday, July 28 to Saturday, July 30. Also available will be draught American beers and draught Belgian fruit beers as well as British Craft Keg beers.

The festival will be open each day from 11am to 11pm.

Entrance is £3 per head with the first half pint free to anyone bringing their own non-glass drinking vessel.

Mr Mellor said that unusually for beer festivals, dogs and children are welcome.

The Café on the Pier will be serving hot and cold food inside the Redoubt during all sessions.

On Friday evening there will be live music from the East Creek Union Band who play traditional American Folk music and on Saturday evening there will be a live performance by singer and song writer Polly Haynes.
