A WOMAN in her 50s was taken to hospital with abdominal pain following a crash between a car and a lorry in Manningtree town centre.

Fire crews, the police and ambulance crews were called to High Street at about 12.10pm on Friday.

The collision took place between a red Vauxhall Meriva and a blue Volvo waste truck, belonging to CSH Environmental.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: "A rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew attended to a woman, believed to be in her 50s, who had abdomen pain.

"She was taken to Colchester General Hospital for further treatment.

"Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or serious."

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said no one was left trapped following the collision, which saw the road closed while the vehicles were recovered.

"One crew from Manningtree attended the scene, but on arrival everyone was out of their vehicles," she said.

"The vehicle were made safe and the patient was left in care of ambulance service."

CSH Environmental had not responded at the time of going to press.
