Inquiries are continuing into the death of a man who was struck by a train at Ardleigh.

British Transport Police report that its officers were called to the railway line close to Manningtree Station on Friday.

Officers from the BTP and Essex Police attended the incident which was reported to the BTP at 5.47pm.

Medics from the local ambulance service also attended the scene, where the man was pronounced deceased.

The are no suspicious circumstances.

A file will be prepared for the coroner.

The train involved was a Liverpool Street to Ipswich service.

BTP say the line was handed back to Network Rail at 7.15pm.

The incident caused much disruption to services.

Alternative bus services were laid on.

Among the services affected was one from London Liverpool Street to Clacton, which was cancelled due to the emergency services dealing with the incident.
