A PAIR of delighted centenarians celebrated their landmark birthday just a day apart at a Dovercourt residential home.

Staff at Dovercourt House, in Fronks Road, threw a party to remember for residents Beryl Temperley, who turned 100 on Friday, and Dorothy Hart, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday.

Beryl, known as June to her friends and family, said she had been thrown a lovely party and revealed the secrets to a long and happy life.

She said: “I could not thank the staff enough for making this a day to remember.

“My secrets are I always worked hard and loved gardening, I have always been active.

“This kept my mind active and on the go. You must enjoy the good times.”

Julie Thorpe, care manager, said the two centenarians were overwhelmed to receive best wishes from the Queen.

She said: “June was overwhelmed when she received the telegram from the Queen, she wasn’t expecting to get one and did say she might frame it.

“She had a lovely day with her family and friends celebrating this milestone.

“She received some beautiful flowers and two cakes made especially for her.”

Dorothy celebrated with her son Wallace, who was “delighted” with his mother’s achievement.

Julie added: “Dorothy was delighted when she received her telegram from the Queen and her son Wallace said it’s a great achievement for her.

“He said she enjoyed herself celebrating this wonderful day with her family, friends and the party.

“The atmosphere was lovely at Dovercourt House, she especially enjoyed the wine and the staff made her day special."
