AN actress who starred in the hit TV show Hi-de-Hi came back to Dovercourt to talk about her life.

Su Pollard, who starred in the Eighties holiday camp comedy which was filmed in the town Dovercourt, spoke at the Rotary Club of Harwich and Dovercourt’s charter night on Monday. Su, also starred known for her roles in You Rang M’Lord and Oh Doctor Beeching, told members of rotary clubs from across North Essex about her long-running career.

Nigel Barnard, of Harwich rotary, said: “It was the club’s 71st charter night, the birth date of the club, at The Waterfront in Dovercourt. We had about 100 people including members from Clacton, Frinton, Manningtree and Mersea Island rotary clubs.

“We had a meal and then Su Pollard gave a talk. She spoke about her part in Hi-de-Hi, she talked extensively about her time in Dovercourt.

“The series went on for eight years so she spent a lot of time here. They all stayed at the Cliff Hotel and ate at The Pier. “She’s a wonderful lady with so much energy - it was wonderful.”

As part of its birthday celebration, the rotary club is calling on residents in Harwich and the surrounding area to join and become members or to volunteer at its charity events.

Nigel added: “We desperately need more members as our members get older.

“But we are not a stiff and starchy club - it’s all about having fun and fellowship.”
