A HALF naked motorist who failed a roadside breath alcohol test has been banned for having no insurance or supervision while driving with a provisional licence.

A passer-by told a nearby British Transport Police officer Jamie Woodham’s Mini Cooper had come off the road at the junction of Wick Lane and Old Ipswich Road, in Ardleigh, at about 1.45am.

Philip Pearson, prosecuting at Colchester Magistrates’ Court, said Woodham, 21, had 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, but was not over the 80mg limit.

He said: “Mr Woodham was in the driver’s seat in his underpants and a T-shirt. He was spoken to by police officers who said he was unsteady on his feet and they could smell alcohol on his breath.

“He failed a roadside test and was arrested.

“Two passengers were in the vehicle but fortunately no-one was injured.”

Woodham, of Hakewill Way, Colchester, admitted to driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and for having no insurance in June.

Defending himself, he said: “I shouldn’t have done it. It was silly and childish behaviour and I have to accept the charge.”

The supermarket shop assistant is now disqualified from driving for one year and must pay £235 in fines.
