A FARM could be transformed into a countryside wedding venue if a proposal is accepted.

Plans have been put forward for Richwill Farm, in Oakley Road, Wix, to have the main barn used as a wedding, conference and event venue.

The scheme also includes converting a workshop and cart shed on the farm into holiday accommodation especially for wedding guests.

The main barn is currently run as Fast Pass Training, and if the development is given the green light, the three full-time posts at the training centre will remain, and a further six could be created for the wedding and events business.

The 5.6-hectare farm site is owned by Sarah and Peter Barnard, who put in the application to Tendring Council.

Mrs Barnard said: “In the current climate, the building is being under-utilised, so it ticks our boxes and it is something we have always wanted to do.” Mr Bernard added: “It’s such a lovely local spot for weddings and events.

“It is positioned very well and a nice location for someone to have a break.”

The application said: "This venue is unique in being able to offer such a rural setting in open countryside whilst also allowing for business growth.”

If the plans are accepted the main barn, which has already been refurbished, would see Fast Pass Training moved out of the building when required so the barn can be dressed for an event.

In the application it has been proposed that the workshop and cart shed will be converted for use as holiday accommodation with six en-suite rooms and a breakfast area.

The cart shed is intended for use as a bridal suite linked with the wedding venue use.

The work planned for the workshop and cart shed would include replacing roof covering, installing new windows, installing heating, and repairing the walls.

The external work would involve repairing the courtyard, planting a new hedgerow and upgrading the driveway.
