YOUNGSTERS have been getting political as part of UK Parliament week.

Children at Mistley Norman Primary School and Nursery have spent the week learning about UK politics. As part of their learning, children in years five and six had a special visit from Mistley’s Tendring and Essex county councillor Carlo Guglielmi.

Headteacher Karen Jones said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn more about the role of the local council and for any aspiring politicians to find out how they can start their fledgling careers.”

The other classes in the school have taken part in a series of special lessons focusing around British values as part of UK Parliament week this week.

Mr Guglielmi said: “It was a very pleasant experience to talk to a group of children who had various ideas on what a council does and how a government works.

“A few went home wanting to be prime minister.

“One question that came up was what made you become a councillor. My reply was that somebody convinced me I should give time to ensure we had a better place where we live.”
