A GREEN-fingered team of more than 30 people braved a chilly morning to help plant trees and bulbs at a community park.

The group – made up of Sea Scouts, their parents, Harwich Society’s Gardening Club and other individuals – dug deep at Cliff Park in Dovercourt.

They worked alongside staff from Tendring Council who maintain the site which has a prestigious Green Flag.

During the morning they planted four Silver Birch; three Mountain Ash; two Evergreen Oaks and a Weeping Elm along with about 1,000 daffodil bulbs in just over two hours.

Harwich Mayor John Brown was also there to lend a hand.

Michael Talbot, cabinet member for environment, said it was a fantastic effort which was very much appreciated.

“It is great to see all ages in the community working together and taking ownership of one of their parks,” he said.

“These sites are so important and benefit a great number of residents and visitors right across our district.

“Initiatives like this will hopefully help Cliff Park retain its Green Flag for another year.”

A further bulb planting session is taking place at the site on Friday with students from the Harwich School getting involved.
