A PINT of beer for an hour of your time is the offer one community pub is giving to its volunteers.

The Maybush Inn, in Farm Road, Great Oakley, is completely run by volunteers and is open seven days a week Saved from closure and reopened last February, the pub is run by the Great Oakley Community Hub.

But more volunteers are needed to staff the opening hours.

A spokesman said: “Due to the ongoing success and rising fame of the Maybush Inn, additional volunteers are required for bar shifts and cleaning in the pub.

“The fact that the Maybush Inn is the only 100 per cent volunteer-run pub open all day, every day, is one of its greatest selling points and part of its great success.

“We now need additional cleaning support for about one hour on Tuesday and Sunday mornings at any time before the pub opens at noon.”

Volunteers do not have to live in Great Oakley or be a shareholder.

One hour of work will be equivalent to a pint of beer/ale or cider, a small glass of wine or a single shot of spirit and mixer “Bar volunteers are required most days at various times between opening and closing.

“Don’t worry if you haven’t done bar work before it is straightforward and full training and support will be given.

“It is a fantastic way to meet friends old and new and become a vital cog in our vibrant community.”

And as an incentive a reward scheme has been launched where volunteers earn drinks vouchers from the shifts they work.

One hour of work will be equivalent to a pint of beer/ale or cider, a small glass of wine or a single shot of spirit and mixer.

The spokesman added: “Volunteers have always been entitled to free soft drinks whilst working but it has now been decided to extend the reward to something a bit stronger.”
