A SELF-employed kitchen fitter has hit out at the state of a road after hitting a pothole that popped his tyre and destroyed his wheel.

David Webster, of Grange Road, Dovercourt, said he was driving along Fronks Road in the town last Friday when he hit a large pothole.

The 28-year-old said: “It has cost me a new wheel at £225 and a new tyre at £97.50, it buckled my wheel and puncture my tyre.

“Because cars are parked on the side of the road it’s very hard to avoid, when I was taking a photo about 11 cars went passed and I counted six of the cars that hit the pot hole.

“I was going 25mph and this is the effect at that speed.”

David moved back to the town in November and has been working as a self-employed painter and decorator as well as a kitchen and bathroom fitter.

He added: “The thing that has up set me the most is I’m self employed and I just finished work that morning, the only work I’ve had this year and as soon as I get paid from that job this happened.

“How many more car owners will be affected by this before something is done.” David said he is angry the pothole has been left to get this deep and dangerous and is calling for it to be fixed.

An Essex Highways spokesperson said: “Fronks Road is inspected every three months. “At the last inspection it was in good condition overall, with few significant defects, although one pothole is scheduled for repair next week.

“Please report any pothole or other problem you find on the road as quickly as possible at essex.gov.uk/highways, so that we can assess and if necessary repair it quickly to avoid anyone hitting it.”
