DOZENS of greyhounds will be meandering through Mistley this weekend as part of a social walk to promote the breed as pets.

Greyhound Trust Suffolk is organising the event on Sunday for all breeds and their owners.

There will be a short walk for elderly dogs and those with pushchairs and a longer route for the more energetic.

The idea is to show off the breed, most often used for racing, as well as to encourage people to consider adopting a greyhound as a pet.

A spokesman for the charity said: “We arrange a monthly walk for our owners and their greyhounds as a social event and as a way of promoting greyhounds as pets. On average we have between 40 and 50 greyhounds and their companions in attendance though other breeds are welcome to join us.”

The charity rehomes retired racing greyhounds and currently has 16 listed on its website. One of the hounds in need of a home is four-year-old Bobby who will be on the walk on the Sunday.

The walk starts at 11am from Mistley Place Park. For more information visit the trust’s facebook page.
