TICKETS are on sale for a one-off special gig with top musicians who will be playing a collaboration of the Pat Metheny Group’s jazz-fusion hits.

The Pat Metheny Group’s career spanned more than three decades, with the award-winning guitarist Pat Metheny and pianist Lyle Mays composing music for 11 studio albums and two live albums.

They also composed film scores for Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories.

Now talented musicians Pete Oxley and Robin Aspland will be coming to The Waterfront, in Harwich, on May 9 to perform some of the Pat Metheny Group’s best numbers.

Suffolk-born guitarist Pete Oxley has had a long career as a band leader responsible for more than 14 CDs, while Robin Aspland is one of the most in-demand pianists in the UK today, having worked with Ronnie Scott, Cleo Laine and Van.

The Harwich Festival’s Simon Ashley said: “Pete Oxley has fond memories of playing the Electric Palace and he called to tell us about his new project with Robin Aspland.

“They had gathered together some of their best and favourite musicians to play some of the Metheny Group’s best-loved pieces at Pete’s club in Oxford, The Spin. It went down so well Pete and Robin were keen to take the project out on the road.

“We felt the concert would be a perfect fit for HF18 as a lead-up to the festival proper and were delighted Pete and Robin wanted HF18 to showcase their new creation. We believe it will be a very special night at the Waterfront.”

Tickets are £10 in advance from www.harwichfestival.co.uk and from the Harwich Box Office at Dovercourt Library and £12.50 on the door.
