AN award-winning pub is appealing for information after clever burglars broke in through two security systems.

The Sun Inn, in Dedham, posted about the burglary on its Facebook page.

Staff said on Sunday, between 3.45pm and 10.30pm, a “substantial amount of money” was stolen from the office.

They added: “[They used] two different access codes to gain entry.

“They also took the CCTV recorder, however the CCTV is backed up to the cloud.

“The police now have this along with fingerprints taken.”

Money given to staff for their service was also stolen.

The Facebook post added: “Not only is it sad that money has been stolen from our business, but staff tips were also taken.”

They are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the village, in particular in the High Street, to get in touch.

They added: “We suspect the person is known to us but hopefully all will become clear once the CCTV is examined.”

Customers were shocked to hear of what happened, saying the pub’s staff had worked extremely hard for their tips.

The Sun Inn was placed in the top 50 pubs in the Good Food Guide 2016.

In 2014 it won the top title for Wine List of the Year for pubs and restaurants across the country.

The pub has recently celebrated its 15th anniversary.

Fans of the Sun Inn include actor and presenter Griff Rhys Jones, Frank Lampard and his wife Christine Bleakley and the actors from the Inbetweeners series.

Anyone with information regarding the burglary is asked to email office@thesuninndedham.com, or to contact Essex Police on 101.

We called the pub to ask for a comment, but no-one got back to us before the time of publication.
