A RUGBY club auction raised £800 for St Helena Hospice.

Harwich and Dovercourt Rugby Club held its final vice presidents lunch of the season with 60 guests.

It was also the club's annual fundraiser in the form of an auction with items donated by club members.

Guests could bid for things such as dinners being cooked to baskets of ironing, boat trips, a day in the life of a firefighter, the use of a vintage car, a lawn mower, fence or shed painting, car MOT and others.

There was also a raffle, which raised £300.

A spokesman for the club said: "The main beneficiary as always is St Helena Hospice, as they have helped many club members and their families.

"A donation was also made to Alex Abbas who is running the London Marathon for Sarcoma UK in memory of his dad, Andrew ‘Chips’ Carter, who was previously a club captain.

"Harwich and Dovercourt Rugby Club holds six lunches during the season and guests attending also bring items of food and toiletries to donate to Harwich Foodbank."
