A FLOWER club is set to fold after 61 years in Harwich.
With only two of it’s members now living in the town, the Harwich and District Chrysanthemum Society, will be closing it’s doors at the AGM next month.
But chairman Robin Thomas said he still holds a ray of hope that some new members may come along to keep the society running.
“Unfortunately over the past few years the membership of the society has dwindled,” he said.
“There is a lack of interest in growing flowers and vegetables for show.
“We are now faced with a situation that with only two members living in the Harwich area the remaining membership having a distance to travel to organise and support the shows and meetings we are desperately in need of new blood.
“We want someone to come along and take it over, for the last three years it has been myself and my wife and Peter Smith and his wife.
“We can’t keep on and on”
He added: “Sunday was our last show.
“What we have said is on December 2 we have an AGM at Ramsey War memorial Hall and if no-one comes forward we will fold.”
