Harwich: Bid for country park funding

PLANS to create a country park in Harwich may not be lost after it emerged Tendring Council is seeking funding for the project.

Tendring Council is seeking a £250,000 grant from Natural England to implement the country park between Ramsey and Parkeston Road.

A £400,000 bid for the scheme, which would have seen the opening of a 167-hectare site including farmland, reed beds and Ramsey Creek, failed last year.

Sarah Candy, cabinet member for planning, said: “If it goes ahead it will create a green corridor next to the growing and expanding greater Harwich area close to where people live and work."

“The park will be a key element in delivering sustainable, high quality regeneration, improving the quality of life and health of our residents. It is a priority project for the Harwich area."
