Harwich: Carpenter to trek wall of China

CARPENTER is holding a charity photoshoot to raise money for a sponsored walk in China.

James Thorpe, of Little Oakley, will be trekking the great wall of China in October to raise money for children with Leukeamia.

But the 31-year-old needs to raise £3,000 in sponsorship for the trip.

After handing out sponsorship forms to friends and businesses Mr Thorpe has organised a charity photoshoot next month.

The event will be held at the Longmeadows Community Centre in Dovercourt on March 6 and 7 from 9am to 4pm.

He said: “I am a carpenter by trade but I am looking into going into photography.

“I have been doing it since 1995.

“I thought of the event because getting pictures taken costs a fortune.”

The father of one will be charging £25 for a 20 minute photo session and a CD of all the photos taken.

“I am trying to come up with other ideas aswell,” he added.

“I am really looking forward to the trek, it will be a personal challenge for me.

“Two years ago I wanted to take part in the London Marathon but we had our little girl, and I applied last year but didn’t get a place.”

Mr Thorpe has already started training for the trek, which takes in both old and restored sections of the 6,000 km long wall.

He said: “I am running once a week at the moment and starting to play some sports.

“I am quite confident I can do it.”

All the money raised by the sponsored trek will be donated to Children with Leukeamia.
