A DOVERCOURT company has been chosen to create a star visable from planes flying from Paris to America.
Wade Atkins based in Fronks Road has been commisioned to make five illuminated mini features around a war monument, which will look like a lone star from above.
The company was involved in installing the main monument on the site in Normandy, a sculpure created by Stephen Spears to honour the USA Navy gave to the D-Day landings.
David Baalam, one of three owners of Wade Atkins, said: “The monument has five stars.
“It’s got a big sculpture on top of three sailors, which sits on a pedastal four of five feet high.
“Each of the sides is going to have a reading pedastal.
“In the back there will be a light that shines on the monument.
“If you look down from an aircraft all you will see is a star.”
The company has been involved in creating and installing monuments in other places including for the American Battle Monumnets Commission in the Somme region of France.
“We are an electrical contractors,” added Mr Baalam.
“Although we still do small bits in Dovercourt a lot of work is away.
“We have contracts all over East Anglia.”
He added that the business has been in the town a long time, handed down to him by a friend, but the work on monuments began because of his interest in the world wars.
The star lights are set to be completed and dedicated on June 6, the anniversary of the D-Day landings.
