Dovercourt: Care home plans cause concern

PLANS for a new care home in Dovercourt have been given the thumbs up - but with stipulations.

The Clacton Family Trust is looking to build the 80-bed care home on land opposite The Fryatt Hospital, on Main Road.

But while councillors have welcomed the development, they have also expressed concerns about parking and access to the site.

Lawrie Payne, town councillor, said: “I believe this is the right use for this site.

“It’s what the town needs and I’m very supportive of it.

“But I do have some concerns about how vehicles will enter it.

“If this development goes ahead then there must be some form of traffic control so cars can enter the care home and the opposite hospital.

“Traffic lights or the installation of a roundabout should be looked into.

“I have great fears of someone pulling out of there and being side swiped.

“We of course all remember there has recently been a pedestrian accident right outside the hospital.”

Harwich Town Council agreed to approve the plans but insisted Essex County Council highways department look at access to the site.

Tendring Council has the final say on the plans.

traffic lights would cause chaos especially during busy periods. It is a nightmare now during scholl/work start and finishing times.

Care homes are often situated in residential areas and/or at main junctions - there's no bother, even at 'scholl' or other peak times. Crooked Elms, Belmans, Emily May Court - these being but three existing care complexes in the Harwich/Dovercourt area - and rather large complexes at that! No traffic problems as such, with these. The hospital is the busiest place, with comings and goings all day long - what problem does getting in and out of this entail? Not a lot.
