A commuter has slammed the “horrific” train service he uses after becoming exasperated by regular delays and cancelled trains.

James Harrison, of Hillside Road, Southminster, commutes to his job in Canary Wharf, London, every day using the Abellio Greater Anglia service from Southminster to Stratford.

He said that recent incidents, one involving a cancelled train due to a security alert on July 23 and long delays on July 18, have pushed him to speak out.

Mr Harrison, 43, said: “It’s very rare I go a whole week without some form of delay or cancellation.

“I paid £4,148 for my yearly ticket but if they were running properly I wouldn’t have a problem but I think it’s bad for the service we get at the moment.”

An Abellio Greater Anglia spokesperson said: "On behalf of Network Rail and Abellio Greater Anglia we would like to extend our sincere apologies to customers who have experienced delays to journeys on recent occasions.

“We are acutely aware that recent levels of service reliability and punctuality have fallen well below expectation.

“Please be assured that both organisations are working together to overcome rolling stock and infrastructure failings."
