Braintree Council needs to allocate more land for future housing

First published in North Essex

Landowners are being asked to suggest land for potential development.

Braintree Council has begun a call for sites after scrapping its draft Local Development Framework for 3,443 homes across the district.

Up to 883 homes a year may be needed as a result of new housing projections and Government guidance, more than three times the 272 a year the council had thought.

Lady Patricia Newton, cabinet member for planning, said: “With the need for more homes, we will need to look at larger sites, which could include urban extensions like Great Notley, or new settlements, as well as extensions to existing towns and villages, and this will become clearer as we get further into the process.”

Road, jobs, schools, shops, doctors surgeries and other community services will also be needed.

Landowners can find out more at braintree.gov.uk/callforsites.

The deadline for submissions is October 24.

Handy bit of green space in Humber Road, Witham.

Just the job for a 10 storey block of flats I think!

Are what a pity Bhudeeka. And there was I thinking how much you would love to have the opportunity of extending a genuine warm hearted welcome to one or two new neighbours coming to join your sweet little band of quasi- countrysiders.

It doesn't look like I'll be knocking on your door in the near future asking to borrow half a cup of sugar after all.

Ah well, I suppose it'll have to be Francis Road after all.

How about relocating the shops from the Newland Street shopping centre in Witham to the numerous other empty shops, and demolising that hideous 60's construction to make space for new homes?
