Labour hoping to take Clacton advantage

Labour hoping to take Clacton advantage

Labour hoping to take Clacton advantage

First published in North Essex

COLCHESTER’S community safety boss, Tim Young, is the front runner to fight defector Douglas Carswell to be the Clacton MP.

Mr Young, who leads the labour group on Colchester Council, had already been selected to stand for the party in next year’s General Election.

But despite no official announcement having been made for the by-election, he has received the backing of former Labour MP Ivan Henderson, who represented the area between 1997 and 2005 and was the former constituency’s first ever Labour MP.

Mr Young has remained tight-lipped on the subject, saying he is still waiting for official confirmation, but said he would be excited at the opportunity.

Mr Henderson said: “Tim will bring a lot to the fight.

“He is local and understands the pain people have felt and are feeling.

“He understands the issues of the area, something Carswell has failed to do in his time here.”

Havn`t you posted this one before?
With 2 Election campaigns in 6 months-Are Tim and Julie taking these weeks as holiday or are the taxpayers paying for their campaigns?
Although Tims recent public scrap with Sir Bob Russell emphasised the problems of Colchesters political feuds-I think the Ipswich Town supporter is a decent chap BUT hasn't got a chance in Clacton.
Must check with the Bookies.

A decent chap! Deliberately drove at and ran over a Police officer in Colchester and failed to stop…Subsequently arrested and charged and even with overwhelming evidence against him pleaded not guilty, found guilty by his peers and called arrogant by the Judge…. Should consider himself lucky he can stand as an MP. This man has no credibility or mettle.

Bring on the sycophants

So where was Tim Young last week when the defection of Douglas Carswell broke. The only labour voice I heard on radio and TV was Ivan Henderson who comes from Harwich. A very poor PR exercise by Tim Young. Not rehearsing for another "Wife Swop" was he

Couldn't agree more. In fact, Young (the council cabinet member for everything) has done more to ruin Colchester than most.

I wouldn't drag all that up again-Didn't he have to step down as Labour Candidate in Colchester?
Or have I got that wrong?
Yes he did. At the time of the 2001 general election, his case was still sub judice. No party would have wanted to have as candidate someone with a criminal charge pending. Tim Young was convicted shortly after that general election. His conviction is now spent, but in politics you can never live down your past misdeeds.
.
Anyway, I hope he gets elected. This should lead to him stepping down as Labour leader and councillor in Colchester.

Once again Boris thank you for the detail(didn't keep the cuttings on that one)
Becoming an MP-no matter how unlikely-would not prevent him continuing as a Cabinet member on CBC.
Mike Hancock-having been thrown out of the Lib Dems continues as an Independent MP and Cabinet Member on Portsmouth Council-I believe your friend is aware of his flat mates plight.
PS I got 3:1 on a Scottish Yes vote from Corals Monday-think it could be close one.

Yes Douglas is brilliant .... at stabbing his friends in the back. Good old UKIP - just the same as the rest after all. And making the people of Clacton pay out a six figure sum for a by-election when there's a general election next May. What a waste of money. UKIP don't really care after all!
