A primary school pupil swam a mile to raise more than £600 for a cancer charity and her terminally ill friend.
Hannah Colville-Durell, 9, took the plunge after being inspired by a family friend who contracted terminal cancer.
The John Ray Infant School pupil said she wanted to help those suffering from the disease live a more comfortable life and also to try and find a cure.
Mother Sharon Colville-Durell said her daughter was an inspiration: “She is an amazing girl and thinks of everyone else but herself, I am extremely proud of her.”
Hannah completed the gruelling swim at Braintree Leisure Centre where she trained for four weeks prior to the event.
Money given online has been donated to Cancer Research UK while cash donations were given to Hannah’s friend, who has asked not to be identified.
