Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell has called on the Prime Minister to ensure Essex has the same independent powers as Scotland.

During yesterday’s Prime Minister’s Questions, Sir Bob asked David Cameron about devolution.

He said: “More people live in Essex than voted yes at the Scottish referendum.

“With fairness needed for citizens in all parts of the UK, will the Prime Minister agree that what Scotland gets, so should the people of Essex and East Anglia?”

Mr Cameron said: “I note this is becoming something of a theme in my honourable friend’s questions.

“If we keep our promises in terms of additional powers to the Scottish Parliament including powers over tax raising, then we must make sure that MPs for Essex or indeed other counties in England have the ability to vote on these issues as they affect England.”
