Nine out of the top 10 books loaned from Braintree library are children’s stories.

Data released by Essex County Council after the Times submitted a Freedom of Information request showed that the majority of most loaned books in the town over the last year are for children to read.

The most loaned book from the library, in Fairfield Road, between September 2013 and 2014 was The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers - taken out 75 times.

In Witham, four of the top 10 books taken out from the library in Newland Street were for adults.

The most loaned book was The Casual Vacancy taken out 39 times - JK Rowling’s first publication since the world-famous Harry Potter series.
