To mark the 20th anniversary of the National Lottery, we asked shoppers on Maldon High Street what they would do if they won £1million.
Ken Spurgeon, 81, of Tollesbury, said: “When it began everyone thought they would win.
“People were frightened their numbers would come up when they hadn’t backed them.
“I would give most of it away, what would I do with it at my age?
“If I won it when I was young, it would have been different.”
Paula Hunsdon, 69, former teacher, of Elm Green Lane, Danbury, said: “I would spend some and I would attempt to get interest from some because that would give an income.
“I would buy property because it’s an investment and a means of safeguarding your money.
“I wouldn’t just think of myself, I would help out a few people by surprising them and I would give some to charity.”
Doreen Towner, 82, of Hill House Park, said: “I would certainly give to the charities I support and then I would give it round to my family, to help them.”
