Plans have been submitted to Braintree Council to build a memorial museum for the 365th Fighter Group at the Old Airfield in Gosfield in Hedingham Road.
The United States Air Force group, known as the Hell Hawks, were based in Gosfield during World War Two and played an instrumental role in the conflict.
A prefabricated 1940s Nissen hut, which is currently being used by a company on the industrial site, will be refurbished and moved to the entrance of the site.
The proposals include 12 parking spaces including disabled bays, plus space for bicycles.
