Teachers are celebrating after Halstead’s only secondary school climbed the ranks in the GCSE league tables after more students made the grade.

The secondary school league tables for exams taken in 2014 were released on Wednesday, ranking schools against the national minimum standard of 40 per cent achieving five A* to C grades, including English and Maths.

At Ramsey Academy, 55 per cent of pupils achieved the benchmark grades, a huge leap from the 41 per cent recorded the year before.

The low percentage from 2013 meant that the Colne Road school was ranked 79th out of 87 Essex schools ranked for results.

But since making improvements after coming out of special measures in 2013, the school has recorded its best ever results so far.

Rob James, who took up the post as headteacher at the academy in September, said the grades reflected the hard work of teachers, senior leaders and pupils alike.
