TWO Colchester institutions have teamed up to host their first Military Day.

Colchester United FC and Colchester Garrison have joined forces for the special event during the club’s home match against Crawley Town on March 14.

There will be recruitment trucks, vintage Army vehicles and the chance for fans to try on military memorabilia at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The Military Wives Choir will also perform and fans can enjoy a penalty shoot-out between mascots.

The event also marks the signing of a covenant with a promise of closer co-operation in the future between Colchester’s most famous establishments.

Col Gary Wilkinson, commander of Colchester Garrison, said: “I look forward to the match and the surrounding activities as a chance to celebrate the links between us.”

A spokesman for the club said: “The Army and the club have a long-standing association since our formation in 1937.”
