A KEEN runner is getting ready for his 11th marathon.

Malkiat Singh, 69, of Stanway, is once again putting on his running shoes for the London Marathon.

It is the 11th consecutive time the optician has run the race.

Each time, he chooses a different charity to help and this year has chosen Sense, which helps children who are deaf and blind.

He said: “My sister was disabled, so I am all for helping children with difficulties.

“I am hoping this year to raise £2,000 for the charity. I have already got £500 and all donations will be gratefully received.

“I am planning on dressing up too. I at first thought about Batman, but have decided to put on my Indian dancing outfit so everyone will be able to watch out for me on the TV.”

Mr Singh had retired from running Eyes Rite Opticians in Harwich, but has since decided to return. He said: “I am back by the popular demand of the people of Dovercourt.”

He added: “I am really looking forward to this year’s marathon and hope as many people as possible can get behind me.”
