Witham station is set be even more beautiful this summer after a train company set aside £15,000 for plants and tools.

Almost 200 volunteer station adopters, who plant colourful displays across the region, will be entitled to a slice of the fund from Abellio Greater Anglia.

Annie Northfield has been Witham Station’s adopter for more than 10 years and hopes to receive some of the cash for this summer’s planting.

She and Mel Foster created spectacular tiered baskets at the Albert Road station last year which won them the Best Staffed Station Award at Abellio’s 2014 Station Adopters Awards.

Mrs Northfield said: "We would love some more money for the flower displays - we normally spend about £1,000 and this fund would really help."
