Schoolchildren had a wheely fun time during a cycling workshop aimed at inspiring kids to get on their bikes.

Pupils at Great Bradfords Infants School, in Marlborough Road, Braintree, took part in a free cycling workshop at school on Monday as the county prepares to host part of the 2015 Aviva Women’s Tour.

The children showed some real pedal power as they enjoyed lessons with top cycling coach Julian Allen.

For stage two of the tour, up to 100 of the world’s top female cyclists will come to Essex on June 18, starting in Braintree and finishing in Tendring.

Cllr Ray Gooding, Cabinet Member for Education & Lifelong Learning said: “We are delighted to have held the first cycling workshop with Great Bradfords Infants School and hope to inspire the next generation to get on their bicycles. We are keen to build on the cycling legacy of last year’s Tour de France and with the Aviva Woman’s Tour coming through Essex in June, now is the perfect time for people to get out their bikes and get active.”

The workshops, which will be launched in 20 primary schools in the county, are organised by Active Essex in partnership with Sport England and Essex County Council.
