Maldon library is urging young readers to help break a world record.

It is joining other Essex libraries by taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge, which aims to keep children reading during the summer holidays.

The theme is world records and Essex Libraries wants to set a new world record for the highest number of pledges for a reading campaign.

Maldon Library will be part of the pledge attempt between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, July 11.

Maldon’s deputy library supervisor Bridget Keyes said: “It would be lovely to see as many children from the Maldon area sign up for the record as possible."

Children will need to read six books of their choice and will collect stickers in six categories including ‘animal magic’, ‘cool tech’ and ‘action adventure!’ to collect their medals.
