A developer has taken a step forward in controversial plans for a caravan park.

Strutt and Parker has approached Maldon District Council in connection with a change of use of land at Bradwell Marina.

The proposal is for a static holiday caravan site spanning 6.6 hectares or just over nine football pitches.

During a consultation with residents, it was revealed that 70 caravans could be based there.

As many as 200 people signed a petition against the proposal, fearing the village would be “turned into Jaywick”.

Strutt and Parker is awaiting a response from the council as to whether an environmental assessment needs to be carried out prior to submitting a planning application.

The deadline for the council to respond is August 13.
