A fundraising day to bring the cinema back to Halstead has been a big success.

More than 1,000 people went to the fun day at Courtauld Sports Grounds, in Halstead, on Sunday.

Arena events included displays of belly dancing by Belldanza, an excerpt of O Mamma Mia by Vikkis V's Theatre Productions, Elizabeth School of Dancing, Brightlingsea Brightstarz Display Team, the AA Dance Group and finally the Takewon-do-olympus Display Team.

There were also 50 stalls and activities, with slides, rides and go karts on offer.

The day was in aid of the cinema fund, which aims to get a cinema back at the Empire Theatre, in Butler Road.

The theatre is currently exploring various options to bring the theatre back.

It is estimated that more than £1,000 was raised.
