POLICE are appealing for the public's help to trace gold jewellery stolen in a raid.

The four gold cross shaped pendants had been made out of the wedding rings of the victim’s late parents.

Thieves broke into a property in Inglis Road in Colchester.

Along with the precious pendants they took three Apple iPads, cash, Euros and a Volkswagen Golf which was parked outside.

The vehicle was later found abandoned in the Mersea Road area of Colchester.

PC Wendy Crowson from Colchester CID said: “I’m keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the pendants or been offered them for sale.

“I’d also like to speak to shopkeepers or bank workers who may have recently exchanged a large number of £2 coins for notes or a three-figure sum of Euros for sterling.”

The burglary happened at about 2am on Saturday, September 12.

A 21-year-old man has been charged and two others arrested in connection with the burglary.

Benjamin Ayres, 21, of Riverbank Walk, Colchester, has been charged with burglary as well as theft from a shop, taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and possession of a class B drug.

He appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Crown Court.

A 22-year-old man from Colchester has also been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and a 16-year-old, also from Colchester, has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods.

Both have been released on bail until October 28 and October 29 pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information should call Colchester CID on 101.
