WORKERS across the county are being urged to get on their bikes for National Cycle to Work Day.

Essex County Council are urging businesses to follow their lead and pledge to join the national initiative, encouraging their staff to ride into work on September 14.

Eddie Johnson, Essex County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “This is a great opportunity for people across the county who have not considered cycling, to try it out.

“We have put on a number of rides, led by instructors, for staff at County Hall in Chelmsford and would love to see businesses encouraging staff to get on their bikes.

“Cycling to work is a great way to get fit while saving money on travel costs.”

For the less experienced biker, the Safer Essex Roads partnership provide Bikeability courses to help give riders more confidence on the road.
