BURNHAM is gearing up for its annual carnival day tomorrow.

The full day of Carnival Day entertainments starts at 9.30am on the Saturday. These include the crowning of the new carnival queen, a dog show, local school displays, Punch and Judy shows, children’s fancy dress, Blue Falcons Gymnastics Display Team, an Air Cadets display and The Veterans Band.

Then the magical Grand Illuminated Procession starts at the Clock Tower at 7.30pm.

The whole town takes part in the day. Local businesses enter the shop window competition for the best display.

Various pubs and shops are running competitions and the Jolly Fryer chip shop have a secret celebrity lookalike coming in the afternoon.

It’s not too late to enter the procession. Entry has been made easier this year by the opening of different classes for decorated car, hand propelled vehicle and so on.

The organisers are also pointing out that there are lots of different ways to power fairy lights from inverters that plug into the 12 volt plug in your car and battery fairy lights so you can easily light up your entry without needing a generator.

Visitors are advised to bring along some change to put in collection buckets, and even dress up. Donation buckets can be collected from Curtis O'Boyle estate agents to help collect for the local charities.

People can also donate to the Carnival funds through JustGiving by searching for Burnham Carnival Committee.

On the day there will be road closures from 9am at Chapel Road and Riverside Road.

All cars must be cleared from the affected parts of the High Street and further roads will be closing from 6.30pm.
