BRANTREE'S MP has been voted onto the International Trade Select Committee of the House of Commons.
The committee is tasked with examining expenditure, administration and the policies of the Department for International Trade.
In the wake of Brexit James Cleverly, who is also MP for Halstead, said that the country;s trade relationships are more important than ever before and he was looking forward to keeping the government on its toes regarding policy.
In his maiden speech Mr Cleverly said: "Throughout our nation’s history we have been at our best when we are globally focused on international trade—when we are indeed a nation of shopkeepers.
"I will fight for infrastructure investment in my constituency and for a good deal for my constituents, but I will also fight to keep this nation an internationally focused competitive trading nation."
