A MAN has appeared in court accused of two counts of rape.
Benjamin Taylor, indicated guilty pleas to both charges when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Roger Pearson, prosecuting, told the court the incidents took place on July 7 at victim’s home in the Tendring area while the pair were watching the Disney film, Frozen.
He said Taylor, who appeared in the dock wearing a black suit and carrying a backpack, had “trapped” the victim and had “physically forced himself on her”.
Magistrates declined to sentence Taylor yesterday because their powers are not sufficient.
He was told: “The case is so serious that we are committing you to crown court for sentencing.
“We are, however ,minded to grant you conditional bail.”
The 22-year-old, of Butchers Lane, in Walton, must not contact the victim or a potential witness and must not go to the victim’s home.
His case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be carried out ahead of a sentencing hearing in January.
He faces two counts of raping a woman aged 16 or older.
