CHILDREN had a chance to pull on white coats and get stuck in with some experiments at a special school science day.
Pupils from Howbridge Church of England Junior School, Witham, conducted their own scientific investigations on Monday.
The aim was to raise the profile of science, help inspire pupils and maybe even find the next Albert Einstein.
Classes were given assemblies by experts and got to get hands on with experiments of their own throughout the day.
Damon Howlett, assistant headteacher at Howbridge Junior School, said: " It was a real success - we really harnessed some of the thinking of the children to develop their scientific enquiry skills.
" We want the children to develop their awareness and get them questioning things around them.
"Each year group had a different focus.
"In year 6 we explored states of matter, making ice cream without a freezer, launching exploding Alka Seltzer Rockets, creating Coke geysers in the playground and investigating plasma.
"Every class has produced a record book of the day with photos, learning points, research and findings.
"Feedback has been marvellous with some children saying it was the best school day ever."
