MALDON’S waterfront and world famous Mud Race will star in a new ITV show.

TV star Robson Green got stuck in the mud when he was filmed completing Maldon’s iconic Mud Race for Tales from the Coast.

The show, which was filmed in April last year, is set to be shown in the coming weeks in an episode in the four-part series.

Green, famed for his roles in shows such as Waterloo Road, Granchester and Casualty, was filmed in Promenade Park before taking to the Blackwater Estuary to take on the mud.

He later enjoyed a trip to Clacton, riding down the seafront on a scooter as part of the episode which visits Essex.

As part of the series, Green is exploring the UK’s wonderfully varied coastline, from the unspoilt beaches of Devon, Essex and Suffolk to the remote islands of Pembrokeshire.

At the time visitors spoke of their surprise at seeing Green, perhaps best known for singing a number one cover of Unchained Melody as part of duo Robson & Jerome, filming for the show.

Carlie Mayes, from Ulting, was one of those who spoke with the star.

She told the Standard: “He obviously had heard about the Mud Race and thought it was a great idea and wanted to be involved.

“He is a fit guy and didn’t have any problems with the course. He was a really nice guy. It was all kept hush, hush as they didn’t want too many people down there.”

Tales from the Coast is due to begin on ITV later this month.
