AN internationally acclaimed singer, pianist and entertainer is bringing his latest show to the Braintree Arts Theatre.

Kent resident Joe Stilgoe, has had a massive 2016.

He rocked the Oliver Awards, had a starring role in BBC Radio 2’s Fabulous Films of the Fifties show and began laying the building blocks for his latest set of shows – Songs on Film.

Looking back before his big break however, the performer thinks a love of film probably entered his life before music made its mark.

He was first inspired after seeing the Jungle Book in the cinema, and Disney classics are heavily featured throughout the show..

Songs on Film blends music from the likes of Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc with classics movies from the golden age of Hollywood.

Stilgoe, who has also performed in the Cole Porter musical High Society in London’s West End, will perform hits like Chuck Berry’s You Never Can Tell - which was iconically brought to the screen by Quentin Tarentino in the famous John Travolta-Uma Thurman dance sequence in Pulp Fiction.

He is not just a musician and is known for expertly treading the boundaries between music, comedy and entertainment in a similar way to Frank Sinatra did in his heyday.

The show wants to challenge the notion of what a jazz-based trio can achieve in live performance by evoking a sense of nostalgia amongst audience members.

Mr Stilgoe said: “The rest of my year will be spent taking my show Songs on Film around the country for its debut UK tour.

“I’ve tried to make this show feel like the best cinema trip there ever was, and for film geeks like me it’s a chance to spot every reference, while for normal people it will be a great ride through all the greatest musical moments put to film.”

The musician is performing at the Braintree Arts Theatre, on Notley Road, next Saturday from 8pm.

Tickets cost £20 and can be purchased online at: www.braintreeartstheatre.com.
