SHOPPPERS are being encouraged to go green when they travel thanks to a bright new information board.

Lion Walk and Red Lion Walk bosses have put up a bright display in the popular town centre shopping area reminding people about information from the Colchester Travel Plan Club.

Top tips on public transport and cycling information is included.

Centre manager Peter Scopes said: "Supporting initiatives such as sustainable travel is very important to us at Lion Walk, and as part of our wider commitment to the local community, we want to raise awareness of environmental issues.

"Making the decision to walk, cycle or use public transport can play its part in helping to save the planet – and it can help you become fitter and healthier too."

New bike racks have also been installed at the shopping centre.

Colchester council's safer communities boss Mike Lilley (Lab) said: "We are extremely pleased Lion Walk is working in partnership with the Colchester Travel Plan Club to help promote sustainable travel into the town centre.

“This is a key priority for the council, by travelling into town using sustainable methods it reduces your environmental impact and could also save you money and improve your health.”
