A GARDEN centre’s coffee shop and restaurant has undergone a transformation thanks to a TV design show contest.

Lucy Tiffney, who appeared on the BBC’s The Great Interior Design Challenge last year, created nine colourful murals in the dining area at Perrywood Garden Centre in Tiptree.

All the murals have a botanical theme and Lucy chose plants and pots from the garden centre as her inspiration.

Customers and staff have been avidly watching Lucy as she has been working on the new pieces.

Lucy said: "Painting the murals at Perrywood has honestly been one of the nicest commissions I have ever undertaken.

“The staff and visitors are all such lovely, friendly folk and the plants and flowers have been a huge inspiration. All have made the job a pleasure".

Communications manager Hannah Powell added: “We wanted our dining areas to feel more welcoming and to remind customers they are in a garden centre.

“The reaction has been fantastic and I think Lucy has really delivered with her fresh, modern designs.

“We have invested in the interior design to address the acoustics and to improve the look and feel of the building. We know from our own experience, and from valued customer feedback, that previously it was very noisy in the main room.

“The new works have reduced noise levels and made it a much more pleasant place to eat and work.”
