A SUPERMARKET made a kind donation to help primary school pupils live a healthier lifestyle.

Braintree Sainsbury's donated free fruit and vegetables as well as a slow cooker to Lyons Hall Primary School as part of Braintree Council's Livewell Child campaign.

The campaign is part of a three year trial being delivered by Braintree Council in partnership with Essex County Council.

Children at the school were presented with the items during a special assembly on Thursday.

Andrew Smith, headteacher at Lyons Hall School, said: “We have been really impressed by the Livewell Child project so far and we thank Sainsbury’s for their support.

"The health and wellbeing of our children is paramount and we are looking forward to putting into place the other interventions as part of the Livewell Child project.”

Lian Meachen, store manager at Braintree Sainsbury’s, said: “We didn’t hesitate to sign the Livewell Child pledge as helping to support the health and wellbeing of our local community is a priority for us.

"It is a pleasure to introduce new and exciting fruit and veg to children and watching them try healthy foods they might not have tried before.

"We are hoping that by providing the slow cooker the children and their families can appreciate how quick and easy it is to make delicious meals which are good for you.”
