A TEENAGER who has been battling with Leukaemia is refusing to let it phase him.

Charlie Corbett, 14, from Witham, was diagnosed after he started getting a pain in his jaw, which grew progressively worse.

Despite undergoing intensive treatment for acute leukaemia, the Maltings Academy pupil is due to sit his English and maths GCSEs a year early.

Charlie is also raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and CLIC Sargent, and make survival kits for children with cancer.

His mum Lisa said he is on his final eight-week block of chemo before going on a three-year break.

She said: "Charlie has responded brilliantly, mentally he has been amazing.

"He did an extra GCSE for the European Computer Driving Licence and is taking his English and maths a year early.

"You wouldn't know he has been ill, he doesn't talk about it.

"He is more concerned about other children."

Charlie is due to go into a three-year maintenance phase, which will determine whether he has a chance of relapsing again.

During this time he will study at home for his exams, with the help of teachers coming to visit.

His mum formed Charlie's Army to help raise funds and make survival kits for other children with cancer.

So far the group has raised £2,500.

Mrs Corbett said: "I feel confident we can raise £5,000 by the end of summer so we can register as a charity.

"We need to make 120 boxes a year as more and more children are being diagnosed, it's a big mission.

"Twelve people in two weeks have been diagnosed with cancer at one hospital.

"It's exciting making the boxes but heartbreaking at the same time."
