A COUPLE say they fear for their daughter’s safety whenever they leave the house due to a group of speeding moped riders.

Suzanne Rozee and partner Bryan Cook live with their three-year-old daughter in Gulls Lane, Braintree.

A group of moped and motorcyclists have been using the pathway outside their home as a cut through since before they moved in over a year ago.

Ms Rozee said: “They go so fast that I can smell the burning rubber from inside the house.

“I don’t want to see someone get hurt and the worst case scenario is our little girl being hit. This is becoming normality for us now.

“It has got to the point where I want to move house – we cannot live like this.”

Nuisance riders use the shortcut all hours of the day, including in the early hours of the morning and late at night.

The couple have contacted Braintree Council, Essex Police, Essex Highways and MP James Cleverly about the problem.

Mr Cook said: “It is generally a very quiet area. The most noise we get is when the kids are playing opposite.

“The worst part about it is we have elderly people walking down here and we have kids walking down here.

“We cannot just walk out of the front door when we are with our daughter.

“How many people does it take to complain to sort the problem out?”

A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: “The best way for residents to take this forward would be to contact their local Essex county councillor so that the Braintree local highways panel can consider what measures might be appropriate in this situation.”
